One Kona Unit 29er Finished

So Clifford and I finished Namrita’s Unit 29er last weekend, but she had mid-terms all this week so she hadn’t ridden it yet. She has been speculating all week if she’ll like the single speed, the 29″ wheels, or the Jones H-bars. She was sure she wouldn’t like the bars…..

Namrita's Kona Unit 29er

…..so I am at work and she just got home from the maiden voyage and this is the IM exchange we just had:

eddieodea: how was the ride?
namritak: eh
eddieodea: namritak: j/k
namritak: IT WAS AWESOME
eddieodea: really?
eddieodea: give it to me straight
namritak: yes really
eddieodea: very cool
namritak: probably the most fun i’ve ever had riding a bike
namritak: everything was perfect
namritak: really
eddieodea: are you messing with me
namritak: nope
eddieodea: awesome
namritak: i couldn’t stop grinning, it was so fun
eddieodea: you liked the bars
namritak: yup, i do like the bars..my fingers hurt a little, ring and pinky, i think i need to bring the levers in
namritak: we didn’t ride it, mallie didn’t want to
namritak: but it was ok, i rode everything else
namritak: gear was perfect
eddieodea: good to hear
namritak: very happy
eddieodea: do you think you could do a sustained climb with that gear/
namritak: thank you baby, i love it
namritak: yeah
eddieodea: cool
namritak: though 21 might be better for the mtns
namritak: there is a huge diff. between dauset and anywhere else
namritak: i would try it in the mtns but i’m sure i’d have to walk a fair bit.
eddieodea: yeah, but as you saw with Clifford….walking is usually the same speed as most folks climbing
eddieodea: when I get mine going and dialed in I want to try them in the mountains
namritak: true. i didn’t have to walk anything today, but i suppose i’ll have to get used to that. sort of sucks, but man is it nice and simple without gears
namritak: yeah me too, i’d like to ride this everywhere if possible
namritak: oh, and it’s so smooth.
namritak: with the big wheels and steel, didn’t miss suspension at all. rode down the hills really fast over lots of junk and it was so smooth
namritak: very comfy
namritak: sorry i won’t be able to stop talking about it

I think she likes it.

I’d expect a full report and ride pics on her blog ASAP.

BTW – My rear wheel had a small issue that American Classic is working out right now. I should be rolling next week.

Hey…it’s okay for me to out myself as a wuss to Nam, but to post it here on your blog!!! She really had a great time. She kept saying how much fun she was having.

Sorry, Mallie that was not the intention. It ust struck me as very funny after listening to speculate all week about how she was not going to like the bike (because it was all new, single speed, 29er, H-bars) and then the complete 180*. You have to give us a tour of Arrow Head down in Macon soon.

I was just kidding. Once you actually meet me, you’ll realize I’m never serious. I’d love to show you Arrowhead and East Macon. I’m slow…but I do know my way around! Have fun at your event this coming weekend.
