Let the Racing Begin!

I am off to the 6 Hours of El Lagarto in Lakeland, FL. This race started 4 years ago with about 60 participants and is now getting closer to 200. 4 years ago this was my second attempt at a multi-lap endurance race and I was so psyched up for it that I nearly beat all the teams and lapped the solo field. It was races like this that gave me the confidence to go for the big 24 hour prize.

This year the El Lagarto will see 4 previous winners toe the line: the unaging Tinker Juarez; the young gun Ryan Woodall; the fast and the furious John Lowe; and myself. Of course there are others that have a legitimate shot at the podium too including IF rider Havey Minton. I’m not expecting to win this one, but I hate to miss the podium.

I tried to find a podium shot from 4 years ago, but I don’t seem to have one…so this cheesy pic from 01 will have to do:
I was a little husky back then....

The first half of the season is taking shape…the second half will fill in depending on my recovery from the first:
Jan 28 6 Hours of Carter Park Lakeland, FL
Feb 17th 12 Hours of Razorback Reddick, FL
April 21st Cohutta 100 Ducktown, TN
April 28th Dirt, Sweat & Gears 12 Hour Fayetteville, TN
May 13th Ranger Run MTB 34k Dahlonega, GA
May 20th 24 Hours of Conyers Conyers, GA
June 23rd Cowbell Challenge 12 Hour Charlotte, NC
July 30th 24 Hour Nationals Wausau, WI
Aug 18th Fools Gold 100 Dahlonega, GA
Sept 2nd SM 100 Harrisonburg, VA
Sept 16th 24 Hr of Landahl Blue Springs, MO
Oct 13th 24 HR of Moab Moab, UT

I may throw some XC or road races in there in March and again later in the season to keep the speed up, but I’l play that by ear.

See you at the races,

Eddie O
