Getting Caught Up
The site seems to be stable again, but now I’m a little behind in my postings. Two weekends ago Namrita & I raced the Dirty Spokes 12 Hour at Fort Yargo State Park….home of the YABA Club. Nam raced the first 6 hours while I played pit crew and dog sitter, then I took to the course for the last 6 hours. It was a lot of fun. Nam was riding very strong and set me up well to take the lead and finish there. We finished with 11 laps total. I felt great and went for the fastest lap, but missed it by 40 seconds or so. I tried again on a night lap, but was too spent from the first one to put in the effort. Still we won the Duo Co-ed class and took home some nice swag for it. Oh, we got to sport our new 55nine Performance kits and banner, so hopefully that will generate some more business.
Speaking of business, the results are pouring in. Having worked with both the male (Mark Hekman) and female (Tina Pic) winners of the Southeast Crit Series was very rewarding, but only the begining. Shey Linder won the solo race at the Dirty Spokes 12 hour and Joey Rosskopf was invited to race with the US National Junior squad over in Europe! Then Carey Lowery wins her first pro race at the Tanasi SERC! But there is more…..OK, we already have a blog for this at the 55nine site. I’ll just say that I am very proud of all of these results and the work that each rider has put into making their improvements.
Last week I was putting the finishing touches on my prep for the 24 Hours of Conyers. This will be the first 24 of the year and it’s always a big one for me. Winning at Conyers has been a goal since I started doing these crazy races 3 years ago. This will be my 4th try and as has been the case for each of the previous races, I feel stronger than last time. I have no idea what strategy to take for this one, but I have a few more days to think about it. Last year’s winner, Ernesto, will be back and new guy to the race Josh Tostado, will be joining us. I’ve gotten the better of Ernie a few times since last year’s race, but that does not mean anything come Saturday. He is tough and will be prepared. Josh raced a strong DSG a few weeks ago, but who knows how he’ll fare this weekend. Conyers can be incredibly hot and if it rains….plain nasty. We’ll see.
Memorial Day weekend is coming soon….that means the BURN 24 Hour is on! I’ll post of the promo later. I’m pretty excited because we have some great sponsors this year and the turn-out should be strong. I really enjoy my day as director and spectator, but it’s exhausting. Two weekends in a row of sleep deprivation is rough.
Got to run,
Eddie O
