Washed out…not up.
So I’ve been MIA for a week or so? I’m training, the Tour is on and we are putting this little race together called the Fool’s Gold….heard of it? I’ve been back to 20+ hour training weeks again since the Cowbell in prep for 24 hour nationals and that is really starting to tap most of my energy. This is the first time all season I’m feeling a little sluggish. I think the combo of heat, intensity and long hours is finally getting to me. Luckily, the taper is right around the corner and I’ll bounce back quickly.
Yesterday Nam and I had a modeling gig over at Conyers for our friend Andrew Kornylak…he’s the one that shot our wedding, that sweet shot in my blog header and then smaller gigs like shooting for National Geographic Adventure and Outdoor Magazine. He asked us to ride in circles while he taught a outdoor photo clinic. Mostly we hung out until “action time” when we rode back and forth in a short section of trail. It was a little rough since we had to do our own hair and make-up.
Today we tried to ride the Fool’s Gold route, but it didn’t work out so well. Nam, myself and our friend, Chris Pic. Chris is a roadie from way back, but gave that up a few years ago to pursue other interests such as being the main man over at Blue Competition Cycles. We parked at the mid way point at the game check station on FS77 and suited up….we’ll Nam & Chris did. I forgot my riding shorts!
In the picture you can see how I exhibitied my rare ability to drink from my belly button:

OK, so I was using my Wingnut waist straps as make-shift belt for my not so appropriate shorts.
We rode for about 3 hours. The shorts were not as bad as I expected until the rain came about half way through. Suddenly my shorts weighed ten more pounds and threaten to get caught in my chain rings when I stood up. We ended the ride we a wicked fast descent down Winding Stair in the rain which was some what blinding. Luckily it was dark enough the on coming trucks had their lights on or could have been ugly. We made a bee-line for the truck and even got a break in the rain while we loaded up.
The best part was that those were the only shorts I had with me, so I rode home commando style!

Good thing we didn’t get pulled over,
