Pre-Ride 13 Hours of Santos
I’m in FL at my brothers right now. We are heading up to the Santos Trail Head near Ocala in few minutes to pre-ride the course again (we rode it yesterday). It’s very flat and very fast. A storm had just passed through yesterday before we rode and packed all the sand down. That made everything roll so fast and gives me some confidence that if it does rain during the race then we’ll continue on without too many issues. The only issue I may have is with tire selection. I have some Hutchinson Pythons on one bike which pack up with wet sand pretty easily and are not the best for hooking up on wet roots. They are tubeless though and I really don’t want to mess with them so far from my garage and trust air compressor. I may just lower the air volume is it gets wet…..and it will get wet.
This course may be perfect for bettering my 2005 distance PR in a 13 hour of 152 miles set at the Bakers Dozen in SC. We’ll see who shows up to keep me motivated. At the Bakers Dozen I had no idea who I was racing or where they were, so I just kept pegging it. Maybe that should be my strategy tomorrow….just peg it until it’s over.
