Moving to the Big Wheels

In case you couldn’t figure it out or were just too lazy to click your way to the details…..I’m racing for Vassago Cycles next year and that means riding a 29er. I’m riding one of Namrita’s single speed Jabberywockies right now until my geared Bandersnatch arrives. I’ll be happy to leave the single speeding to Nam. Don’t get me wrong now, I’m not hating on single speeds….it’s just too much work for me. Having to swap gears depending if we are going north or south, east or west. Changing chains, readjusting brake calipers…..no thanks. I want to ride and put it away, grab it and go. If anyone tries to give that nonsense about single speeds being maintenance free give them a Donkey Punch….and not the good kind.

Big wheels and OCPs

Anyway, I’m digging the big wheels. The handling on the Jabber is great…quick, but not twitchy. I’ll hold out on judging the real climbing ability for now since the off season is creeping in and legs are not feeling all that great. I will say that fitting a 29er bike is challenge for a guy with short legs. The bigger wheel just sets that front end up so high, that getting the handlebars low enough for a Wobble Naught fit. I’m working on some solutions though and that will be good for any 55nine clients looking to get a 29er fit as well.

Gotta go grab Nam from school…..
