24 Hours of Clear Springs Recap
Namrita covered her version of the race on her site, so I’ll keep this short. I handed up bottles, the end. Just kidding…well, I did hand up bottles, but there was a bit more. The race was very small….maybe just over 100 people….and the solo riders and their support were separated from the the team folks who I only saw when they transitioned. There was a camp ground a 1/4 mile away where are the teams were camping/pitting and they just came up to the start/finish as needed. It made the race feel that much smaller. It was cool though and I spent plenty of time talking to the neighbors how I won’t list because I am horrible with names. I will say this was one of the most generous groups I’ve raced with…well I guess I don’t have a lot of experience with hanging out in the pits, so that may not be fair to other groups I;ve set up next too, but still everyone was incredible nice. No one seemed to mind the crazy dogs either. Jackson was none stop for about 8 hours until I finally had to lock him in the car and tell him to sleep….which, surprisingly he did. Porter wondered and probably stole some food.
Namrita didn’t have a very good day and we learned some lesson the hard way. You cannot complete a 24 hour race without complete dedication. This applies to both the preparation and during the race itself. I knew this one was going to be hard for her since it was so late in the year, it was going to be cold, it was going to be quiet with so few racers, because training has been a little too relaxed….but I just didn’t have the words for all of that before hand. I wish I had, but I think I will next time I’m coaching someone through a similar situation. Next time….
On a lighter note, this is how a new Vassago comes about.
