Adapting

I seem to be adapting to this weight lifting routine. We have two more weeks of this 4 days-a-week hypertrophy phase. The first two weeks hurt….a lot. I mean simple things like standing, sitting and bending over were made…uh…very uncomfortable by the muscle soreness. The accumulated soreness was brutal toward the end of the week. Now in our third week, I seem to be recovering much faster. Today I feel pretty good compared to the last two weeks….I can touch my toes this morning….without screaming. I think I can even see some muscle growth, but that may just be wishful thinking. It’s hard to tell when I flex like Arnold in front of the bathroom mirror every morning. Maybe I should only do that once a week….

I visited Dr Glass yesterday which was long over due. The poor guy fell while on his honeymoon and broke his hand, so he’s been out of the office for 4 weeks or so. I needed to see him that first week. My neck has been a source of pain for most of the year due to the long hours in the saddle, the constant abuse on the trail and a lack of conditioning on my part. He adjust it, it would be good for a month or so, then I’d race or crash again, repeat. I did very little yoga this year and no weight training. There is a price to pay for such negligence. Dr Glass was able to make some adjustments, though I still have some issues in the base of my neck. I’m hoping this weight training and regular yoga routine would help this heal and not continue into next year. He suggested I stay away from over head triceps work to limit the stress to my neck. Advice I’ll heed.

Alright, I’m off to ride and lift again….
