Home Sweet Home
Finally, after three weeks of various beds throughout Florida, I was able to sleep in my own. I slept for about 9 and half hours and it was glorious.
We finished out our trip with some good rides at Croom and Flatwoods. The Croom ride was pretty cold as a front had dropped down to the sunshine state. The ride started out OK, but as the sun set the temp dropped and the last 20-30 minutes were a time trail back to the truck to get out of there. Friday we rode at Flatwoods with my good friends Art and Julianne North. I’ve know them for years and they were the ones who encouraged me to try racing. We finished the day out over at Kira Banneworks doing some bike fits and then hanging out eating pizza and drinking Bells Amber & Dogfish Head Indian Brown with owners Mike and Shelly.
Today we rode at Fort Yargo with for 4 hours to wrap up a 3 week block of base miles. Cody “The Fastest Man in the World” Yancy of Addictive Cycles fame joined us for the first hour and then Namrita and rode the rest. I was having a hard time keeping my heart rate in check with the hills. I’d try to keep it up on the descent only to have it spike on the climbs. I guess I’m a little out of practice. A really funny thing happened as we came around the lake on the first lap. There is a new section of trail that comes within a 30 feet or so of the lake and as I come up on it I scan the lake over for gators. Then is occurs to me what I just did and where I’m at. I had a good laugh at myself for that.
It’s good to be home.
I need to the thank a bunch of people for their hospitality in FL:
Dan, Penny, Jimmy & Kyle O’Dea
Kevin Jako
Mom and Dad
Mike and Shelly
It was a fantastic trip and would not have been possible without you.
To all my friend’s I did not get to see….Lizzard, Tracey, Richard, James Z, Tedlee and more….I’m sorry it didn’t work out. We are in the poor house after a slow fall and did not even make it to 4GF once. Next time, I hope.
